Good luck rains on Brunswick County’s Communities in Schools

Call it kismet, serendipity or just good luck. Communities In Schools of Brunswick County Inc. received it after facing a crisis shortly before its 10th annual gala.
The tent at Sea Trail Golf Resort and Convention Center in Sunset Beach, where the event was scheduled to take place, collapsed when Hurricane Irene swept through the area in August. The Carolina Ballroom at the Convention Center was already booked for the same night. What was CIS to do with the 600 people who planned to attend the black tie-optional event Oct. 27?

Mindy Newman cuddled the 10-week old French bulldog, quieting its heart-wrenching screeches. “I don’t know if being powerful is showing compassion and feeling an owner’s pain and joy,” the veterinarian at Kind Care Animal Hospital in Little River said. “In general, I think a powerful woman is everything combines: compassionate, making decisions, helping clients make decisions and dealing with life and death. That happens here every day.”

“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” Ann Bokelman, Karen Dombrowski and Chris Wilson understand what Walt Disney meant when he sad that. These three Sunset Beach residents fulfilled their dream by founding the Old Bridge Preservation Society.
A landmark since 1958, the bridge represented serenity, charm and character to some but was obsolete, unsafe and frustrating to others.

In 1976, a group of men with a vision took advantage of the opportunity to buy almost 700 acres of land in Sunset Beach, North Carolina, from International Paper. Without fanfare, the partners named their investment Sea Trail.
